2021 São Toméan presidential election
Presidential elections are scheduled to be held in São Tomé and Príncipe in July 2021.[1]

Electoral system
The President of São Tomé and Príncipe is elected by a first-past-the-post two-round system for a five year term. If no candidate receives more than 50% of the vote in the initial vote, a run-off is conducted between the top two candidates.[2]
Potential candidates
The current president, Evaristo Carvalho, is eligible for re-election.
Former prime minister Patrice Trovoada has been mentioned as a potential candidate, but faces difficulties due to corruption allegations.[1]
Elsa Garrido, president of the Social Democratic Movement-Green Party of São Tomé and Príncipe announced her candidacy on 23 December 2020.[3]
