Background
Following the 2014 elections, the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) formed a coalition government. In 2018 the BJP pulled out and withdrew its support from the government. Governor's rule was subsequently imposed. In 2019 Article 370 of the Constitution of India, which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, was abrogated. The state was split into two union territories, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. The UT of Jammu and Kashmir was provided a legislature, with elections planned for 2021.[3]
Elections
The delimitation process for the elections had started from March 2020, and is continuing now as it is said to be completed in a year.[4] Excluding the four seats which fell in the UT of Ladakh, Kashmir Valley had 46 seats and the Jammu division had 37 seats. But, due to delimitation process, the Jammu division got more 7 seats, thus making the total seat tally 90.[5] The elections will be held in all of the 90 seats of the Legislative Assembly.
