2020 Summer Olympics Parade of Nations
During the Parade of Nations within the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics opening ceremony, athletes and officials from each participating country will enter in the Olympic Stadium preceded by their flag and placard bearer. Each flag bearer will be chosen either by the nation's National Olympic Committee or by the athletes themselves. On 30 March 2020, the IOC and TOCOG announced they had reached an agreement on the new dates for the 2020 Summer Olympics, which would begin on 23 July 2021.

Parade order
Athletes will enter the stadium in an order dictated by the Olympic tradition. As the originator of the Olympics, the Greek team will enter first. Other teams will enter in alphabetical order based on the names of countries in the Japanese language,[1] the first time this will happen as previous Olympics held in Japan have used the English language. Following tradition, the delegation from the host nation Japan will enter last. The names of the nations will be announced in French, followed by English and Japanese, the official languages of the Olympic movement and the host nation, in accordance with traditional and International Olympic Committee (IOC) guidelines.
The Refugee Olympic Team, composed of refugees from several countries, will be the second nation to enter,[2] after Greece. For the first time in the opening ceremony, the countries that will host the next two Olympic Games, France and the United States, will march before the host nation Japan enters, instead of entering one-hundred-fifty-fourth (between Brazil and Bulgaria) and seventh (between Afghanistan and American Samoa), respectively, according to the Japanese alphabet order.[2]
On 9 December 2019, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) banned Russia from all international sport for a period of four years, after the Russian government was found to have tampered with lab data that it provided to WADA in January 2019 as a condition of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency being reinstated. As a result of the ban, WADA plans to allow individually cleared Russian athletes to take part in the 2020 Summer Olympics under a neutral banner, as instigated at the 2018 Winter Olympics, but they will not be permitted to compete in team sports. The title of the neutral banner has yet to be determined; WADA Compliance Review Committee head Jonathan Taylor stated that the IOC would not be able to use "Olympic Athletes from Russia" (OAR) as it did in 2018, emphasizing that neutral athletes cannot be portrayed as representing a specific country.[3][4][5] Russia later filed an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the WADA decision.[6] The Court of Arbitration for Sport, on review of Russia's appeal of its case from WADA, ruled on December 17, 2020 to reduce the penalty that WADA had placed. Instead of banning Russia from sporting events, the ruling allowed Russia to participate at the Olympics and other international events, but for a period of two years, the team cannot use the Russian name, flag, or anthem and must present themselves as "Neutral Athlete" or "Neutral Team". The ruling does allow for team uniforms to display "Russia" on the uniform as well as the use of the Russian flag colors within the uniform's design, although the name should be up to equal predominance as the "Neutral Athlete/Team" designation.[7]

Names are given in the form officially designated by the IOC. Note that the list is not yet finalised and subject to organisers' decision.
