Cal Poly was a two-year school until 1941, and competed in the California Coast Conference (CCC). The team was led by sixth-year head coach Al Agosti and played home games in San Luis Obispo, California. They finished the season with a record of five wins and four losses (5–4, 1–3 CCC). Overall, the Mustangs outscored their opponents 119–111 for the season.
