Background.
During the 1902 season Port Adelaide finished the minor round on the top of the SAFA league ladder. Port Adelaide however disputed the use of umpire Mr Kneebone for the first finals game against South Adelaide as he was not credited at the beginning of the season and the club were suspicious of biased umpiring. Subsequently, Port Adelaide abandoned the match in protest & thereby forfeited themselves out of finals contention.
They later challenged the premier North Adelaide who beat South Adelaide in the grand final, but the SAFA refused approval for the game to be contested or any result to be recorded.
