Zalmonah

Zalmonah (Hebrew: צַלְמֹנָה‎) was one of the places the Israelites stopped during the Exodus (Numbers 33:41,42). Its name may mean shady. Aharoni argues that the name of this biblical site was preserved in the Roman fort Calamonah in the Arabah.[1] It appears that he follows the identification of Calamonah with Bir Madhkur, a Late Roman/Byzantine army fort along the ancient Incense route in the Arabah, however this identification has been questioned by many scholars.[2]
