Yang Yang (conductor)

Yang Yang (杨洋) is the Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra. Yang Yang has conducted more than 20 domestic and foreign symphony orchestras.

Yang started his career in 1998 at the first Beijing Musical Festival. In the following seven years, he conducted operas and concerts at the same festival. From 2000 to 2005, Yang held the position of Assistant Conductor at the China Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2006, Yang attended an advanced training course hosted by Myung Whun Chung, a Korean conducting master, in Korea. Now, Yang is the Assistant Art Director of the China Philharmonic Orchestra. He became the Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra in 2009.[1]

In November 2006, he won First Place for his performance at the Dimitris Mitropoulos International Competition for Orchestral Conducting in Greece. It was the first time for a Chinese conductor to receive such honor.[2]
