Wigan Springs Branch TMD
Wigan Springs Branch TMD is a traction maintenance depot located in Ince in Makerfield, Greater Manchester, England. The depot is situated on the West Coast Main Line and is about 2 km (1.2 mi) south of Wigan North Western station.[2] Springs Branch depot is due to be rebuilt and reopened by December 2019.[3]

The depot code is SP. From March 1958 until the introduction of TOPS in May 1973, it was 8F.
History
From 1957 to 1996, Class 03, 04, 05, 08 shunters, Class 11, 20, 25 and 40 locomotives could be seen at the depot.[4] As of 2018, the depot is used for wagon repairs and the maintenance of Multi Purpose Vehicles.
Users
Northern
Springs Branch TMD is due to be rebuilt and electrified at a cost of £46 million, with preparation work starting on 9 April 2018.[5] When it is completed, the depot will provide maintenance, refuelling and train washing facilities for rolling stock operated by Northern, with capacity for up to 24 electric multiple units and eight diesel multiple units.[6] The rebuilt depot is expected to become operational in December 2019.
