Whittle School & Studios
Whittle School and Studios is a for-profit educational organization founded by Chris Whittle. It aims to be the "world's first global school", and with a network of campuses around the world. The school opened its Washington, D.C. and Shenzhen campuses in the fall of 2019.[1]
History
The company has raised more than US$900 million in cash and costs born by developers of the school's campuses.[2] The goal is for much of the company's and school's leadership to come from China, India, and the United States.[3] The company expects to lose money for some number of years.[3] The opening of the Brooklyn location is estimated to have cost $300 million.[3]
Pedagogy
Students will, according to Whittle, be prodded into boarding for two years at an international campus to help with the school's goal of having students who speak at least two languages.[2] The school also claims it has "hands-on, personalized learning".[3]
Locations
The school has three campuses, in Washington, D.C.; Shenzhen, China; and Brooklyn, New York.[4]
