Viorel Oancea
Viorel Oancea (born December 8, 1944 in Brașov) is a Romanian politician. Oancea was a member of PCR from 1979 to 1989.[1]

Political activity
He went into politics, being the founder of the local Civic Alliance party. In 1992 he was elected as a mayor of Timișoara. In 1996 he ran again for mayor but lost to Gheorghe Ciuhandu. He went to the National Liberal Party once with the merger with the Civic Alliance Party and was elected in 2004 as a senator in the Parliament of Romania. He is currently a member of the Liberal Democratic Party.
He is one of the advocates of the lustration law that wants to eliminate former communist activists and security informants from politics.
Since January 26, 2009, he has been the Secretary of State within the Ministry of National Defense.
