Tropical Storm Emily
The name Emily has been used for seven tropical cyclones in the Atlantic Ocean, and five tropical cyclones in the Eastern Pacific Ocean. It was used in the Eastern Pacific before the formal naming system was instituted. Although the name Emily was then removed in the Pacific, it remains in the Atlantic. There were also two other Emily-named storms; in the South-West Indian Ocean (Tropical Depression Emily (1962)) and in the Australian region (Cyclone Emily (1972)).
Tropical cyclones named Emily throughout the years in the Atlantic basin
Atlantic Basin:
- Hurricane Emily (1981) – crossed Bermuda
- Hurricane Emily (1987) – caused considerable damage to Saint Vincent, Dominican Republic, and Bermuda.
- Hurricane Emily (1993) – came within 25 miles of Hatteras Island, North Carolina
- Tropical Storm Emily (1999) – absorbed by Hurricane Cindy without threatening land.
- Hurricane Emily (2005) – earliest recorded Category 5 storm; caused damage in Grenada, Quintana Roo, and Tamaulipas.
- Tropical Storm Emily (2011) – caused minor damage throughout the Caribbean.
- Tropical Storm Emily (2017) – made landfall in Tampa, Florida as a moderate tropical storm.
