Toby J. Heytens
Toby J. Heytens is an American attorney and law professor who serves as the Solicitor General of Virginia.

After graduating from law school, Heytens was a clerk for Chief Judge Edward R. Becker of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He was Bristow Fellow in the Office of the United States Solicitor General and then clerked for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. He next worked at O’Melveny & Myers in Washington, D.C.
Heytens has served as a law professor, first at Cornell Law School, and then at the University of Virginia School of Law.[1]
On January 9, 2018, Heytens was named Solicitor General of Virginia.[2] He serves under Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring, who was reelected in 2017.
Heytens is also a coach for the University of Virginia's undergraduate mock trial team. The team currently has won national championships in 2006, 2007, and 2017. Recently, in their 2018 season, the team came in 2nd in their division.
