Tim Dawson

Tim Dawson (born 1988) is a British writer and journalist. He is the creator and writer of BBC Three sitcom Coming of Age, which was piloted in 2007[1] and ran for three series.[2][3][4]

In 2020, his original comedy drama, Not For Turning, aired on BBC Radio 4.[5] The play was described as a "sparkling politico-personal drama" with a "witty, sculpted script".[6]

Dawson writes regularly for The Spectator.[7]

Education

He was educated at Abingdon School from 1999 to 2006. He was the comedy actor in Here to Entertain You and The Comedians and won the North Drama Prize. He also wrote, produced and directed Bang Goes Douglas Smith.[8]

Career

Dawson created Coming of Age while still a teenager.[9] He wrote on Series 7 and 8 of Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps.[10] Dawson was identified as a "Broadcast Hot Shot" in a 2008 edition of the industry magazine Broadcast.[11]

In 2016, Dawson and Two Pints creator Susan Nickson were rumoured to be working on a new Carry On (franchise) film.[12] Dawson later confirmed the project had stalled: "Certainly, we were serious about it, and came up with a way to do it- low-budget, fast-paced, family comedy... but it became apparent to the Producer and us that it just wasn't going to happen. And never will, in any guise."[13]

In 2018, Dawson contributed an episode of Lady Christina, a series of audio dramas spun-off from Doctor Who and made by Big Finish Productions.[14]

Not for Turning, a radio drama by Dawson, was broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in September 2020.[15]

Dawson has written articles for The Daily Telegraph,[16] The Spectator,[17] Spiked,[18] Conservative Home[19] and CapX.[20]

Politics

Dawson stood as a Conservative Party candidate in the 2018 local elections.[21]

Dawson is a supporter of Brexit, and campaigned against the May government’s Chequers Plan.[22]

Between August 2019 and September 2020, he edited the website Free Market Conservatives,[23] which published economic and cultural comment from a range of well-known figures, including politicians, journalists, writers and comedians.
