Synopsis
The Castaways follow the story of passengers on the ship the Mary Jane in 1840 who end up shipwrecked on an island. The survivors are a German family, an English girl, a pair of convicts, a man from the army and a young boy.[1]
The German family Jan Lindburg, wife Eve and daughter Angie were looking to start a new life in the colonies. The English girl Cathy Dunbar who was to take up a teaching post in Port Jackson. Sergeant Holt was in charge of the convicts Irving and Billy Rose. David is a young boy whose parents died in the shipwreck.[2]
Production
The series was a co-production between the ABC, Scottish Television and Germany's Bayerischer Rundfunk. The filming was done over 16 weeks, mostly around Port Macquarie in New South Wales.[2]
