Operations
The charity's helicopter is night-capable and flies a Eurocopter EC135[3] between 7 am and 2 am,[4] from its base at RAF Benson – roughly halfway between Oxford and Reading – with two pilots and a medical team. It also operates four emergency response vehicles (ERV), which, like the helicopter, carries a doctor and paramedic.[3] The service is operational between 7 am and 2 am.[3]
In the year ending September 2019, TVAA's income was £8.7 million, against expenditure of £8.7M, of which £5.3M was spent on operating the charitable emergency service.[2]
Media
In 2018, the charity appeared on Channel 4's TV programme Emergency Helicopter Medics, which follows the crews responding and treating emergency patients.[5] Other air ambulances that featured in the show include Great North Air Ambulance and East Anglian Air Ambulance. In 2019, TVAA responded to 2,670 incidents.[6]
