Teymur Hajiyev

Teymur Hajiyev (Azerbaijani: Teymur Hacıyev) is an Azerbaijani film director, producer[1] and Locarno Filmmakers Academy alumnus.[2]

Biography

He was born on August 28, 1982 in Baku, Azerbaijan SSR. After graduating from West Texas A&M University in 2006, and before moving into filmmaking, Teymur worked as Marketing Director within various commercial entities in Azerbaijan.[3]

Producing more than a dozen shorts films thorough his company FIL Production, including Torn (2014) by Academy Award winner Elmar Imanov (premiered at Cannes, Quinzaine des Realisateurs, 2014),[4][5] Teymur premiered his directing debut short, The Wound, at the Palm Springs ShortsFest in 2013.[6][7] His second short Shanghai, Baku premiered at Tampere Film Festival, 2016[8][9] and his third short, salt, pepper to taste premiered at International Film Festival Rotterdam, 2019[10][11] and was included in Kinoscope’s “Top Five Shorts of 2019".[12]

The inclusion of Towards Evening in the Semaine de la Critique section (first Azeri film in history of Critic's Week programming)[13][14] at Cannes Film Festival 2020 makes Teymur the only Azerbaijani-filmmaker to have been at Cannes both as a director and a producer.[15][16]
