Terry French (chef)
Chef Terry French winner of Season 2 of Food Network's Extreme Chef television show,[1][2] and charity organization Chefs For Life.[3] Chef Terry French has been a USCG licensed Captain since 2009, an IGFA Tournament Angler since 1997. [4] He's an ocean ecology activist with UNPD Guatemala, Trinidad-Tobago with the Miami University Marine Biology of sustainable fisheries, and the education of the invasive Lionfish.[4]
Early life and education
French was born in Evansville, Indiana. He attended Castle High School,[5] and grew up foraging, hunting, fishing and cooking with his family.[6] Prior to culinary school, Chef French served in the U.S. Navy,[7] completing two world tours. French spent nine years as a tournament fisherman, nine years as first mate on a sport-fishing boat,[8][9] and is a United States Coast Guard licensed captain.[10]
French received his culinary degree from Scottsdale Culinary Institute in Scottsdale, Arizona, followed by apprenticeships in European, continental, and Asian cuisine.[11]
Career
French has served as Corporate Chef, Executive Chef at several restaurants, Executive Chef at Emma's Rotisserie in Somers Point, NJ and Rebel Catering based in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey.[12]
Chef French has traveled the world ten times, starting at a young age in the U.S. Navy for eight years and worked in the sport fishing industry for nine and is a world champion tournament fisherman. Through his travels, he has studied culture and foods around the world and has unique skills that he prides himself on.
In 2012, Chef French was invited to participate in the Food Network’s Extreme Chef program, which takes competitors out of the kitchen and into the most extreme locations in the world. French was named champion of Extreme Chef.[5]
In 2013, French, as owner and Executive Chef of Culinary Dreams Catering.[11] participated in the Ashbury Park Oysterfest.[13]
He is also the founder and Managing Director of Chefs For Life, a charity organization which works to feed the hungry around the world, educate them about cooking and healthy eating, promote the appreciation of food and nature, and provide resources to combat hunger.[14] He also works to support the charity No Kid Hungry.[15]
In 2015 Chef French hosted Chef’s Plate, the ultimate traveling culinary competition in St. Louis, MO. [16] Also in 2015, he was a featured chef at the World Food Championships.[17]
In 2015, 2016, and 2017 Chef French was invited as one of the nation’s top celebrity chefs to share their culinary know-how on the World Culinary Showcase stage.[18][17]
