Tarpan (train)
Tarpan (Electric train Kryukivsky first) is an intercity high-speed electric train, created at the Kryukiv Railway Car Building Works in Kremenchuk, Poltava Oblast, Ukraine in 2011-2012.[1][2]
History
At the beginning of the 21 century in Ukraine there was a need to organize high-speed passenger trains. In preparation for the European Football Championship EURO 2012, 10 high-speed electric trains Hyundai Rotem were purchased by Ukrzaliznytsia (6 trains were delivered before the start of the Championship, and another 4 after its end).[3][4]
At the same time, the Kryukivsky plant began to create a high-speed train with a maximum speed of 200-220 km/h. However, the plant was unable to fully develop and certify its train before the start of the tournament. At that time, the train was only undergoing factory tests and running-in. As of January 31, 2013, the interdepartmental acceptance commission of Ukrzaliznytsia accepted the first train EKr1-001 "Tarpan" for operation.
Operation
On June 24, 2014, the operation of Tarpan train began. The electric train №743 departed for the first trip on June 24, 2014 on the route Darnytsia - Kyiv-Pasazhyrskyi - Lviv.
From December 12, 2014 to June 15, 2015 it ran on the new route Kyiv - Kryvyi Rih.[5]
The trains are operated by the Ukrainian Railway High-Speed Company (subsidiary of Ukrzaliznytsia).
