Steve Lopes

Steve Lopes (born 1971) is an Australian figurative artist. He has had more than thirty solo exhibitions across Australia, Hong Kong and the UK where he exhibits regularly.

Lopes studied at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, NSW and qualified Bachelor of Arts (Fine Arts) in 1991. He has held a number of important painting residencies including: Red Gate Gallery in Beijing: Bundanon Trust Studios, New South Wales: Your Friend the Enemy - Painting Project to Gallipoli: Yellow Mountain, China, and Queenstown, New Zealand through The Nock Art Foundation. His work is in the National Gallery of Australia; Federal Parliament House Art Collection Canberra, State Library of NSW and many private collections around the world.

He lives and works in New South Wales.

  • Young Artist Award at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, London
  • Finalist in the Brett Whiteley Travelling Scholarship, Archibald Salon des Refuses, Kedumba and a seven time finalist in the Doug Moran Portrait Prize [1]
  • Winner of the 2018 Gallipoli Art Prize
