Spartanburg County School District 7
Spartanburg County School District No. 7 (SCSD7) is a public school district in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, US.
Led by Superintendent Jeff Stevens, SCSD7 serves more than 7,000 students and employs approximately 1,200 full-time faculty and staff in twelve schools. SCSD7 also hosts the McCarthy-Teszler School, the Franklin School, the District 7 Early Learning Center, and shares the Daniel Morgan Technology Center with Spartanburg County School District 3. Most of the city of Spartanburg is in this district.
Established in 1884, Spartanburg School District 7 is a small urban school district located in the heart of Upstate South Carolina. District 7 is a majority-minority district with a poverty index nearing 70%, a graduation rate of 85%, and a post-secondary enrollment rate that averages over 62% each year. Today, District 7's mission to "inspire and equip our students for meaningful lives of leadership and service as world citizens," is emphasized across the board.
The District’s flagship Spartanburg High School, enjoys the following distinctions:
- An 85% graduation rate
- More than 62% of graduates enroll in a 2 or 4-year college within two years of graduation
- Graduates in the Class of 2019 earned more than $22 million in scholarships
- The high school’s passage rate for Advanced Placement tests is 79%, well above the state and national passage rate.
- Spartanburg High School was the first in the nation (public or private) to be awarded the US Department of Education’s National Blue Ribbon School award four times. Blue Ribbon Schools are selected for their overall academic achievement and their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. The highly coveted national award affirms the hard work of educators, families and communities’ in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content.
- Since the establishment of Advanced Placement Courses in SC’s public high schools, Spartanburg High School has offered more Advanced Placement courses than any other school (public or private) in South Carolina and its record of AP scores is among the best in the state.
- Spartanburg High School is proud of its record of National Merit Semifinalists. This is the highest academic honor available to secondary students and * * * Spartanburg High School consistently leads the state in the number of students so honored.
- Spartanburg HIgh School is consistently recognized by US NEWS & WORLD REPORT as one of the top high schools in the nation.
In 2013, District 7 forged a bold path to eliminate the digital divide among students and implemented a 1:1 technology program that put mobile devices in the hands of every student in the District in grades 2-12. Cited by The League of Innovative Schools, Apple, Inc., and Future Ready Schools for its best practice efforts, the District’s commitment to blended and digital learning continues to advance student outcomes.
