Shaykh Mustafa Takhtayi

Shaykh Mustafa Takhtayi (Kurdish: شێخ مستەفا تەختەیی‎, Şêx Mistefa Texteyî) (1531-1637) is a 15th and 16th century Kurdish poet. His works, along with his father's, are among the earliest samples of written Gorani school of poetry.[1][2] The content of his poetry is about love, nature, religion and mysticism. His works have influenced other important poets such as Mawlawi Tawagozi.

Life

Shaykh Mustafa Takhtayi is the son of Sheykh Shams-aldin Takhtayi, who was a Kurdish poet as well. He left his hometown Takhta, which is located between Mariwan and Sanandaj, to go to Hijaz to study. Later he returned to his hometown and died there. Some other famous poets such as Sheykh Ahmad and Nassim Takhtayi are among his descendants.[3][4]
