Sethu Superfast Express, is a Superfast train route of the Southern Railway zone of the Indian Railways and runs between Chennai Egmore and Rameswaram via Chord line. It is a standard train consisting of 23 coaches. The train covers a distance of 602 km (374 mi) with an average speed of 57 km/h (35 mph)

Etymology

The name of the train commemorates the bridge (sethu) built by Sree Rama. The King of Ramanathapuram Samasthanam (Princely State) in Tamil Nadu bore the title Sethupathy.

The main cities covered by the route are Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Vriddhachalam, Ariyalur, Tiruchirapalli, Pudukkottai, Karaikkudi, Sivagangai, Manamadurai, Paramakudi, Ramanathapuram. From Tiruchirappalli to Chennai Egmore, this train is hauled by RPM/WAP7 or AJJ/WAP4 Electric loco, and the section between Tiruchirappalli and Rameshwaram is hauled by GOC WDP3A/ ED WDM3D Diesel Loco. In between the Tiruchirappalli and Tambaram, this train achieves a maximum speed of 110 km/Hr.
