It was established on 6 January 1990, by Mirko Jović and Vuk Drašković. Drašković left the party soon after to form Serbian Renewal Movement with Vojislav Šešelj. In 1992, the party already had around 30,000 registered members in Serbia and Montenegro. Besides Serbia and Montenegro, SNO also operated in Republika Srpska and Republic of Serbian Krajina. In 1996, the party was merged into Radovan Karadžić's Serb Democratic Party (SDS). The party has been linked to the Dušan Silni paramilitary group and some of its members have been found guilty of war crimes related to the Lovas massacre.[1]
