Rosemary Nyerere

Rosemary Nyerere (1961–2021) was a Tanzanian politician, academic and daughter of the late Mwalimu Julius Nyerere the nation founder and first president of United Republic of Tanzania.[1]

Background and family

Nyerere was born on 27 October 1961 and is among of the seven children of the late Mwalimu Julius Nyerere and Mama Maria Nyerere.[2] She was baptized in the holy church of St. Joseph Cathedral, Dar es Salaam under guardianship of Sir. Clemence Kahama and Madame Victoria, as she also obtained her holy communion there. She married Mr. David Magura on 21 May 1994 in Butiama. The couple had five children and three grandchildren.[3][4][5]

On January 2, 2021 Nyerere was publicly pronounced dead from the information in the inner-circle of her family.[6][7][8] On 6th, January in St. Immaculate chapel, Upanga, Dar es Salaam they held a farewell mass for her and other citizen attendees.[9][10] She's laid to rest at Pugu burial area as Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa is represent President John Magufuli.[11][12][13][14]

Education

Nyerere started her primary level education from 1969 to 1973 to Forodhani and later Bunge primary school. As from 1974 to 1977 she finished her secondary level education from Weruweru Secondary School, from 1978 to 1980 she attended Korogwe High School. As from 1986 to 1989 she joined Mzumbe University by taken advanced diploma in certified accountancy, as she earned first class and received recognition awards.[15] In 1999 she joined Strathcylde University in Glasgow, Scotland to pursue her master's degree in Investment and Finance.

Career

In 1991 to 1999, Nyerere was a part-time lecturer in The Institute of Finance Management (IFM) and later from 1990 to 1993 worked as an accountant in Central Tanganyika Press besed in Dodoma. She also served several board positions such deputy board chairperson of Tambaza High School from 2010 to 2013. In 2002 to 2008 she was the board director of Tanzania Investment Bank. From 2002 to 2005 she served as a board member of Ngorongoro Conservation Area. From 2000 to 2005 she was a MP of the United Republic of Tanzania eighth edition, under an umbrella of party candidacy of Chama Cha Mapinduzi women special seats.[16][17]
