Prunus brigantina

Prunus brigantina, called Briançon plum (French: Prunier de Briançon), marmot plum (French: Marmottier), Alpine plum (French: Prunier des Alpes), Briançon apricot (French: Abricotier de Briançon), and Alpine apricot,[2] is a wild tree species native to France and Italy.[3][4] It is conventionally considered a member of Prunus sect. Armeniaca, along with P. armeniaca, P. mandshurica, P. mume, and P. sibirica.[5] Its fruit is edible and similar to the commercial apricot Prunus armeniaca, but it is smooth unlike apricots. Molecular phylogenetic indicate it is actually a member of Prunus sect. Prunus (Old World plums).[5][6] Therefore, P. brigantina is a plum rather than an apricot.
