Primary Dental Journal

The Primary Dental Journal (abbreviated PDJ) is a quarterly peer-reviewed medical journal principally aimed at primary dental care practititioners. The PDJ is published by SAGE Publishing[1] on behalf of the Faculty of General Dental Practice of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, of which it is its official journal.[2][3]

History

The journal was established in 2012 following the merger of previous publications, Primary Dental Care (which was first published in 1994),[4][5] Team in Practice (which was first published in 2004)[4][5] and First-hand (the newsletter of the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners).[5]

Content

The PDJ publishes news, editorials, features on current issues, research, clinical articles and scenario articles.[3][6] The journal publishes three themed issues on topics such as tooth wear, orthodontics, dental emergencies and leadership, management and professionalism and one general issue per year.[3][7]

Personnel

The editor-in-chief of the PDJ is Igor Blum and it’s managing editor is Hillevi Sellén.[6]

Abstracting and indexing

The journal is abstracted and indexed in MEDLINE/PubMed[5][6] and CINAHL.[8]

Impact

The PDJ has a 2020-21 impact factor of 0.18[9] a SCImago Journal Rank of 0.153[9] and an h-index of 10.[10]
