Pooc, Talisay, Cebu

Pooc is a barangay of Talisay, Cebu. Pooc is bounded by barangays Mohon to the north, and Biasong to the east, with the Cebu Strait to the south, and the municipality of Minglanilla to the west. It has an area of 155 hectares (380 acres).

History

Many fruit trees were planted in the area in the 1920s, and their small fruit attracted birds which made a sound similar to pok pok, which was later became as the area name Pooc.

Employment

35% of Pooc residents of working age are employed in fishing. A further 25% are in business, 5% in farming, and 15% employed by other means, while unemployment runs at 20%.

Health

There is a health center on the ground floor of Barangay Hall. It is staffed by 33 employees.

Attractions

Barangay Pooc has a wide beach front which attracts tourists coming from the city. There are two beach resorts (Blue Beach and Borromeo Beach), and a swimming pool – the Aqua Cainta Resort.
