History

Pindad Maung has been developed since 2018. At that time the name of the tactical vehicle was Bima M-31 and the originator of the idea was the Commander of the Infantry Armament Center (Danpussenif) Surawahadi. Through the partner of PT Pindad (Persero), PT MSA, a 4x4 vehicle with small dimensions was made for the needs of fast attack military operations. The prototype then entered the mass production stage and was carried out by Pindad until it finally went viral after being used by Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto.[3]

The Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto bought 500 units of the Maung tactical vehicle (Rantis) from PT Pindad. He said the purchase of cars from Pindad was an effort to revive Indonesia's domestic industry. Prabowo claimed that the purchase of Maung's vehicle would also open up jobs and increase the nation's income. In addition, this policy is in accordance with President Jokowi's direction.[4]

On Wednesday, January 13, 2021, Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto officially handed over Maung, a light pioneer vehicle produced by PT Pindad which will strengthen the ranks of the Indonesian Army combat vehicles. Prabowo handed over 40 Maung units to the Army Chief of Staff, General Andika Perkasa. The handover was witnessed by the Indonesian Air Force Chief of Staff, the Indonesian Navy Chief of Staff, as well as high ranking TNI officials.[5]
