Pakipaki
Pakipaki is a village and rural community in the Hastings District and Hawke's Bay Region of New Zealand's North Island.
It is located at the intersection of State Highway 2 and State Highway 50A, south-west of Hastings and Havelock North.
Marae
The community has three Ngāti Kahungunu marae:
- Houngarea Marae and meeting house is a meeting place of Ngāti Ngarengare, Ngāti Papatuamāro, Ngāti Tamaterā and Ngāti Te Rehunga.
- Mihiroa Marae and meeting house is a meeting place of Ngāti Mihiroa.
- Taraia Marae and meeting house is a meeting place of Ngāti Hōtoa and Ngāti Taraia.[1][2]
In October 2020, the Government committed $6,020,910 from the Provincial Growth Fund to upgrade a group of 18 marae, including both Mihiroa and Taraia. The funding was expected to create 39 jobs.[3]
Education
Te Kura o Pakipaki is a co-educational state primary school,[4] with a roll of 33 as of March 2020.[5][6]
