Nosheen Ehtesham
Background
Ehtesham was born to tennis player, Khawaja Iftikhar Ahmad on 14 September 1958. Her son, Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi is a professional tennis player. Her nephew, Samir Iftikhar has played international tennis at the junior level while her niece, Ushna Suhail has competed in the Fed Cup and South Asian Games.
Fed Cup career
Ehtesham was part of the first team to compete at the Fed Cup in 1997 where she was the playing captain.[4] Ehtesham partnered with Nida Waseem in the doubles rubber of ties against Syria and Pacific Oceania, losing both in two sets. At the 1999 edition, in the Group matches, she partnered with Mariam Rahim in the doubles and won against all three nations: Turkmenistan, Syria and Fiji. In the playoff against Singapore she won the doubles rubber by 2-1, partnering with Haleema Rahim but lost the singles by 0-2 to Rui-Jin Wong. [5] She was also replaced as captain by Shahida Chishtie.[5] In 2000, history was made when Ehtesham and her son, Qureshi both represented Pakistan in Fed Cup and Davis Cup respectively and in the process became the first mother-son duo to compete at these events at the same time.[6] She regained her captaincy and competed in the doubles rubber of three ties, winning against Jordan and Syria and losing against Turkmenistan. For a decade, Pakistan stopped competing at the Fed Cup (2001-2010). On its return, Ehtesham became the non-playing captain[7] in 2011 and 2013.[8]
