Nelson is a civil parish in Northumberland County, New Brunswick, Canada.[2]

For governance purposes it is divided between the city of Miramichi[3] and the local service district of the parish of Nelson,[4] both of which are members of the Greater Miramichi Regional Service Commission (GMRSC).[5]

Origin of name

The parish was probably named in honour of Admiral Nelson.[6]

History

Nelson was erected in 1814 from Newcastle Parish.[7]

In 1856 the boundary with Northesk Parish was adjusted.[8]

In 1859 Derby was erected as its own parish.[9]

In 1881 the southern part of Nelson was erected as Rogersville Parish.[10]

Delineation

Nelson Parish is defined in the Territorial Division Act[2] as being bounded:

Northwest by the Miramichi River and the Southwest Miramichi River; southwest by Blackville Parish; southeast by a line running parallel to the Kent County line and seven miles northwesterly therefrom; and northeast by the southwest line of lot number sixty-one, granted to Wm. Brown, and its southeasterly prolongation.
