Moshe ben Yosef Firrouz
Hakham Moshe ben Yoseph Firrouz (born 1972) is an Israeli Karaite Hakham, Torah scholar, Register of Marriage and Divorce, and the spiritual leader of the Karaite Jewish Committee. He serves as Chairman of the Council of Sages of World Karaite Judaism and its religious council. Though Karaites do not have Rabbis, he is considered a Rabbi for the purpose of the Israeli authorities.[1]
Biography
Moshe Firrouz was born in 1972 in Or Yehuda, and as a child moved to Bat Yam. He fulfilled his military service in the Air Force, then carried out Beer Sheva pilgrimage studies in Ben Gurion University. He earned a BA in nuclear engineering and a master's degree in management and safety engineering.[2][3]
After his arrival in the community of Beer–Sheva he began attending Torah classes and seminars that take place Beit Midrash. After studying under the guidance of Rabbi Joseph Morad Rabbi Magdy Samuel he was ordained and received a "long" by the Council of Sages, and served as secretary of the Council of Sages. As of 2016, in addition to his religious duties, he works as an engineer in computer systems at Ben Gurion University of the Negev, and formerly also worked in the department of chemistry.
He holds Ph.D degree from the Faculty of Sciences – Humanities and Social Sciences in the Department of Jewish Thought in Israel. His research deals with the most important book of the wise Judea Hadassi "Eshcol Farm".
Hakham Moshe is married to Yael, lives in Beer – Sheva, and is the father of four children.
