Monticello High School offers a comprehensive program of academics, sports and co-curricular activities. Program offerings provide college preparation, as well as career and technical training (through BOCES). The high school program is designed to prepare students for college and the global economy with access to college level courses, advanced computer technology, a comprehensive foreign language program and our Academy of Finance, which is a nationally recognized program that prepares students with skills in computer applications, accounting, banking and credit, economics and international finance. Monticello High School has comprehensive and well-regarded visual and performing arts programs as well as four-year sequences (or Journeys) in a variety of STEAM fields.[5]  

According to state test scores, 93% of students are at least proficient in math and 92% in reading.[3]

Facilities and School Safety

The district employs numerous measures designed to ensure the safety of students and staff:

  • Video cameras are used on school grounds, in school buildings and buses to monitor activity;
  • Faculty, staff, substitutes, volunteers, and interns are issued ID badges that are to be worn at all times;
  • After buses unload students at a single, designated entry point in the morning, school buildings are locked and monitored by trained staff members. Visitors must use an intercom to state their name and purpose of visit and must show a government issued photo ID* to gain entry to the building;
  • The district conducts safety reviews annually to evaluate district-and-building level safety plans in accordance with New York State Safe School Against Violence in Education (S.A.V.E.) Law;
  • The district conducts fire and emergency safety drills, as well as lockdown and lockout drills annually; and
  • The district also provides a number of resources and programs aimed at protecting student personal safety and preventing children and youth from initiating or engaging in harmful behaviors such as the Dignity for All Students Act (DASA), Extended Day Program, Supportive Learning Environment (SLE) Team, and Positive Behavioral Supports Program.

Monticello students, staff and community members may use the app Anonymous Alerts to anonymously report instances of bullying, threats and violence.
