He escaped the city and went to a remote town. There, stood a private villa of the family lead by Mr. and Mrs. HK. He was told by the family to help treat their child Melati, a neurologically-deformed girl unable to speak, transcribe sounds, learn, and interact normally due to being hit by a stone. Karang teaches her by shouting on her ear when she is unable to follow commands, aggressing her in any conceivable way when she still does not. Mr. MK says that Karang will not help, and Karang repeatedly leaves and re-enters the job, unsure yet willing to cure Melati. Exposed as an alcoholic, Mr. MK permanently bans Karang shortly before flying to Frankfurt for his business as an airline CEO. Mrs. MK secretly gave Karang a chance after Melati seen to be able to eat with cutlery, and through teamwork and assuming good faith in each other do Melati show more progress. Returned home, Mr. MK is shocked Karang is still in the villa, but kept him the next day after Melati is able to speak when the word is spoken to her hand.
The family and Karang later go on a holiday to an Airbnb island, where they cherish each other through a firework night. On the ride home, a car confuses the bus driver, clinging it at the edge of the bridge. Karang does a weight distribution initiative, but failed: the bus flipped and fell to the river. Everyone survived, although Melati fainted. In a paper, Karang said that this time, everyone survives because of his belief that Allah will not test its children beyond their limitations.
20 years later, Karang became a businessman, married to Kinarsih and has three children. Melati graduated college and is now a normal person, although she must still use the Indonesian Sign Language. In her commencement speech, he thanked his mother, who is now old.
