In recent years, the Ministry of Health has been trying to change the focus of its strategy away from building large, specialised institutions and has confirmed that they would like to see these left largely to partnerships with the private sector. Instead, the emphasis will be on reforming the primary healthcare system. However, it is worth noting that, with some 466 primary health centres a for population of 3.5 million (according to the World Health Organization), the KRG is better provisioned than the rest of Iraq.
