History

On May 22, 996 the Bishop of Freising was granted market, coin and customs rights. The bishops therefore set up a place for the regular market. The weekly market takes place on Marienplatz to this day, Wednesdays from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The original name of the square was "Schrannenplatz", it was known as "Hauptplatz" in 1810.[3]
