Manfred Börner
Life
Börner he suggested and developed the first working fiber-optical data transmission system in 1965. He received a patent for an "electro-optical transmission system utilizing lasers".[1][2] From 1954 to 1979 he worked for the German Telefunken GmbH. Later, from 1979 to 1995, he was professor at the Technical University Munich.
Awards and memberships
- 1962: Award of the Nachrichtentechnischen Gesellschaft (NTG in the VDE; today Informationstechnische Gesellschaft) for proficiencies on the field of elektromecanical filters and power-line communication
- 1982: Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)
- 1990: Eduard-Rhein-Award by Eduard Rhein Foundation
