History

The first Man High School opened briefly in 1916, meeting in a house adjacent to the campus while it was still under construction. In 1917 ten freshmen were enrolled. Six later dropped out or transferred to Logan High School. The principal, Dr. Barrington, also left after that year.

During the 1920s, Man High School would see a significant increase in enrollment, and most believe it was around this time that construction of the present-day old Man Jr. High was executed. In the 1930s and 40s, enrollment decreased. In 1954, segregation was outlawed by the Supreme Court in their decision on Brown vs. Board of Education. Three years later, in 1957, Man High School was consolidated with the former African-American Buffalo High School, which stood on Buffalo Creek between Crown and Accoville. A new school was built to accommodate the students in the neighborhood of Hensley Heights.

From the 1960s to the 1990s, Man High School's sports teams were often known as the "Blue Funk."
