Malandag, Malungon
Malandag is a rural barangay in the Municipality of Malungon, Sarangani Province, Philippines.[1] Its population as determined by the 2015 Census was 15,071. This represented 14.55% of the total population of Malungon.[2]As of December 2017, Malandag alone listed a population of around 15,000 and Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) share of P9.2 million.[3]

Malandag is situated at approximately 6.3059, 125.2081, in the island of Mindanao. Elevation at these coordinates is estimated at 555.1 meters or 1,821.2 feet above mean sea level.

History
Malungon is Sarangani's gateway to the Davao region. Bordering Gen. Santos City and the province of Davao del Sur, the town offers a lot of potential for business ventures. Investors have already poured in capital for banana, mango, sugarcane and palm oil plantations.[5] In 1978, Malandag became a barangay, Malandag became part of Malungon due to its increasing population.
Historical population
The population of Malandag grew from 11,542 in 2000 to 15,071 in 2015, an increase of 3,529 people. The latest census figures in 2015 denote a positive growth rate of 3.49%, or an increase of 2,484 people, from the previous population of 12,587 in 2010.[6]

House Bill 1013
House Bill 1013 or “An Act Creating the Municipality of Malandag in the Province of Sarangani”, this bill has already been approved by the House Committee on Local Government. Sarangani Province House Representative Congressman Rogelio Pacquaio filed House Bill 1013 on July 4, 2016, and was referred to the House Committee on Local Government on Aug. 1 in the same year.[9][10]
Under the measure, 12 of Malungon town’s 31 barangays would be carved out to compose the proposed municipality of Malandag.[11] These are Barangays Malandag proper, Alkikan, Atla-e, Banahaw, B’laan, Datal Batong, Datal Bila, Datal Tampal, Kibala, Kiblat, Malabod and Nagpan.[12][13]
The proposed creation of Malandag Municipality was first filed by then Sarangani Rep. Erwin Chiongbian in the 12th Congress and refiled in the 16th Congress by then Sarangani Representative and now Senator Emmanuel Pacquiao but was not enacted.[14][15]
