Mahbuba Islam Rakhi

Mahbuba Islam Rakhi (born 21 July 1993) is a renowned actress, model and television host from Bangladesh, currently living in Perth, Western Australia. She is the winner of the most prestigious beauty pageant in Bangladesh- Lux Channel I Superstar 2010.[1] Her experience as an actress, model, dancer and television host has been well noted in Bangladeshi media. She has received critical acclaims for her performance as lead in over 50 TV dramas; TV commercial 'Seylon Gold Tea', and hosting the reality show Handsome the ultimate man. She moved to Australia in 2013 to pursue her higher studies and graduated with a first class honours from Edith Cowan University as a Civil Engineer[2] in 2017. She stepped into the media in 2011 through the drama "Bishmoy" written by renowned actress, artist, writer Bipasha Hayat and directed by award-winning actor, director and architect Tauquir Ahmed.

Biography

Rakhi was born on 21 July 1993 in Dhaka. Most of her childhood days passed in Dhanmondi. Some of her teenage days were passed in Elephant road and Mohammadpur, Dhaka. Her father was a businessman and humanitarian. Rakhi is the youngest of her four siblings. Since childhood Rakhi sings, dances and paints. She won various competitions as child through her talent in those creative fields.

Rakhi graduated in Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) from the Edith Cowan University of Perth, Australia with a first class honours degree in December 2017. During her degree she constantly held her position in the top 100 university students, was the top civil engineering student and volunteered relentlessly to increase participation of women in STEMM. She also graduated in 2019 from a one year acting course from the most prestigious performing arts institute in Australia- Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). She was one of the only 26 students who were chosen that year to study that degree. Rakhi is now currently signed with one of the prominent agents in Perth- Moore Creative Artists (MCA).[3]

Career

Rakhi Mahbuba is a structural engineer and has worked in the mining industry as a graduate engineer in a world recognised oil, gas and mining consultancy company Wood. Some of the multimillion dollar projects she has worked on are- Gruyere Gold mine project and Kemerton Lithium Project in Western Australia.[4]

While in Bangladesh, Rakhi had a career as an actress, model and host and worked from 2011 and 2013 before moving to Australia. Rakhi started her acting career with 'Bisshoy', a TV drama written by Bipasha Hayat and directed by Tauquir Ahmed. The she worked on TV drama 'Aronno Monjuri' directed by Abul Hayat. Rakhi has worked in several dramas directed by Chayanika Chowdhury with her co-actor Ziaul Faruq Apurba including 'Chena Mukh Achena Mukh', 'Bisseder por'. She was a cast in 'Terminal', a TV series on NTV. Besides her acting in dramas, Rakhi has a guest appearance in the music video 'Your Love' sang by Kona on her third album 'Simply Kona', which was collaboration with other internal artists.[5]

Rakhi and popular actor Mosharraf Karim have appeared together in a few dramas, and on 2013 Eid season, they were paired against each other for an Eid special six episode drama “Mirzafar Mir”.[6] The 2013 Eid season was a busy time for her as she also starred in five other TV shows including Emotional Abdur Motin, Ekta Gopon Kotha Chhilo Bolbar, and Adhare Aalo.[7]
