M. R. Latheef

M. R. Latiff is a Sri Lankan senior police officer. A Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police, he had served as the Commandant of the Special Task Force.[1]

Educated at Carey College, Colombo and Royal College Colombo; Latiff joined the Sri Lanka Police in 1979 as an Sub-Inspector of Police. He was a member of the first batch of the Special Task Force, and he specialized in counter-terrorism. Latiff has gained a master's degree in Human Rights from the University of Colombo and had also studied at Fort McNair University.

He had served as Director of the National Police Academy; DIG Badulla District; DIG in charge of police training, exams and recruitment among other appointments. His tenure as Commandant of the Special Task Force saw a major anti-drug campaign.[2]
