List of Psi Omega chapters

This is the complete Chapter and Colony Roll of Psi Omega Fraternity, a professional fraternity for Dentistry. An asterisk (*) denotes an inactive chapter. Chapters listed by order of usage by the fraternity[1] and date of founding where known; naming was not strictly by order of the Greek alphabet due to the timing of installation ceremonies, reuse of names and local preference. Active chapters are in bold, inactive chapters are in italic.

All chapter locations and designations for groups founded prior to 1976 are taken from the referenced 20th ed. of Baird's Manual of American College Fraternities.[2] Additional chapter information taken from a referenced 2013 edition of the Fraternity's Frater Magazine, a publication for actives and alumni of Psi Omega Fraternity.

  3. At the consolidation of their schools, the younger Phi Chapter of ΨΩ merged into Alpha Chapter. For a time the combined entity was called Phi-Alpha Chapter. Eventually the group reverted to the name Alpha Chapter.
  4. Due to a merger between schools, where in 1909 the Penn Dental College consolidated its assets into the more stable University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, ΨΩ's Gamma Chapter was merged into the Fraternity's Zeta Chapter in 1910.

  13. Baird's 20th ed. notes that the Delta Tau Chapter at Wisconsin's P & S (became Marquette University) was merged into Psi Chapter at Starling Ohio Medical (became Ohio State), "when the institutions were consolidated". This appears to be an error in that book. Clearly the 'Psi' was meant to be 'Xi', and that correction is reflected here.
  14. Pi Chapter merged into Phi Chapter in 1913.
  15. Rho Chapter ceased with the closing of the Ohio College of Dental Surgery in 1926.
  16. Medico-Chirurgical College of Philadelphia was absorbed by UPenn in 1916. There already being a chapter of ΨΩ at UPenn in Zeta Chapter, the younger Sigma Chapter was let go dormant. This chapter should not be confused with a later creation of Sigma Chapter at West Virginia.
  17. Tau Chapter merged with Gamma Iota Chapter, and according to Baird's Manual "later" became known as Gamma Tau Chapter. Emory University closed its dental school in 1988.

  21. Beta Epsilon Chapter of ΨΩ merged with Delta Omega Chapter in 1926. That school, Loyola New Orleans ceased its dental program in 1970.
  22. Gamma Pi Chapter of ΨΩ merged into Beta Zeta Chapter in 1912. Washington University closed its dental school in 1991.

  26. Gamma Xi Chapter merged with Gamma Omicron Chapter in 1913.
  27. Delta Rho Chapter and Delta Phi Chapter merged in 1920, later calling themselves the Phi Rho Chapter of ΨΩ.
  28. The merger captured the Wisconsin P & S dental school from the Medical College of Wisconsin for Marquette University; later, Medical College of Wisconsin adherents abandoned further merger activity and remained separate from Marquette.
