| Qi, a secondary school student, spends much of his time swimming. His parents who are separated have no time for him and his sister. One day, he challenges Gao, a guy he meets at the swimming pool he frequents to a contest. Qi loses. Reluctant to admit defeat, he arranges for another round three days later. | |||

| When Qi realizes that he could not even beat Uncle Chen’s student, Xiao Long, in swimming, he begs him to be his coach. Uncle Chen finally agrees. Qi begins his training at the pool and meets Bao Er again and visits her workplace. He writes her a love letter which his sister mistakenly sends to the school principal thinking that it is the one her father had written. | |||

| The principal scolds Qi for writing the love letter. Qi is told by his father and Bao Er to study hard as his academic performance is poor. At the pool, Qi meets Singapore’s No.1 swimmer, Chen Bing Qiang, Bao Er’s brother. He also discovers that Bao Er is Uncle Chen’s daughter. | |||

| Qi misses Bao Er. Meanwhile, Xiao Ding Dong, Gao’s coach succeeds in persuading Qi to take swimming lessons from him. Gao and Qi have a misunderstanding but Qi’s sister, Shu Ning, persuades them to be friends again. Uncle Chen is sad that Qi does not practice swimming with him again. But he continues to observe Qi and corrects his weaknesses through Xiao. Meanwhile, Qi’s father learns that an engineer is courting his wife. | |||

| Qi spends his time swimming and fails his examination. At the “Young Swimming Star Championship,” he manages to come in second. Meanwhile, Qi’s father changes his mind about bringing him to the United States. Dejected that he would not be able to visit Bao Er, Qi goes for a swim. | |||

| Qi meets with an accident while diving and becomes unconscious. He is later advised to refrain from strenuous activities. This incident brings Qi’s parents together.
