Early life

Powell was born in Fort Benning, Georgia,[2] the daughter of Alma and Colin Powell, the former United States Secretary of State, National Security Advisor and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.[3] She was raised on a series of military bases, because of her father's career.[2] She has a B.A. in English literature[3] from the College of William & Mary in Virginia,[2] and studied theater at the Circle in the Square Theatre School.[3]

Career

Powell has had a long career of supporting roles in film and television. Her most notable roles being Ingrid Mills on Chicago Fire,[3] Pauline Samson in TV mini-series Political Animals[4] and a lawyer in the film Blue Caprice.[3]

Powell has also worked extensively in the theater, starring on Broadway in revivals of Wilder, Wilder, Wilder[3] and On Golden Pond,[2][3] and off Broadway in productions of A Raisin in the Sun,[1] Angela’s Mixtape[5] and The Christians.[6]
