Learning the Game
"Learning the Game" is a song written and recorded by Texas pop rock musician Buddy Holly in 1958 and published in 1960, a year after his death. It was the A side to the song "That Makes It Tough".[1]
Recording
The song was recorded in 1959, shortly after his marriage and before his death. Similar to his previous songs, it combined A, E, and D chords. It was also overdubbed a few times.[2]
Notable covers
The song has been recorded by many notable artists, including The Rolling Stones, The Lemonheads, Leo Kottke, Justin Hayward, and Bobby Vee.[3] It was also covered by Natalie Merchant for Buddy Holly's 75th birthday.[4]
