Keck Hospital of USC

The Keck Hospital of USC, formerly USC University Hospital, is a private 401–licensed bed teaching hospital of the University of Southern California (USC). The hospital is part of the USC Keck School of Medicine, it is located on the USC Health Sciences Campus, which is adjacent to the Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, east of Downtown Los Angeles.[3]

In 2019, the Keck Hospital of USC was ranked by U.S. News & World Report as the 16th-best hospital out of more than 6,000 medical centers in the United States, and fourth on the West Coast after the Stanford University Medical Center, UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.[4]The Keck Medical Center of USC includes two acute care hospitals: 401-licensed bed Keck Hospital of USC and 60-licensed bed USC Norris Cancer Hospital; and four outpatient healthcares.[5] Under the Keck Medicine of USC banner there is a third hospital, USC Verdugo Hills Hospital located in city of Glendale.[6]

History

The hospital was started in 1991 by National Medical Enterprises (later renamed Tenet Healthcare) while tenet had ownership of the hospital it was staffed by doctors from the Keck School Of Medicine, in 2006 USC sued tenet to end the agreement. After years of litigation Tenet Healthcare sold the hospital and USC Norris Cancer Hospital to USC in 2009 for $275 million which then allowed USC to fully integrate the hospitals under the Keck Medicine Of USC branding.[2]
