Karl Janetschek

Karl Janetschek (17 April 1940 — 25 November 2020[1]) was an Austrian chess player, Austrian Chess Championship two-times winner (1967, 1973).

Biography

From the early 1960s to the end of 1970s, Karl Janetschek was one of Austria's leading chess players. He won the Austrian Chess Championships twice, in 1955 and 1957.

Karl Janetschek played for Austria in the European Team Chess Championships preliminaries:[3]

  • In 1970, at third board in the 4th European Team Chess Championship (+0, =4, -2),
  • In 1980, at sixth board in the 7th European Team Chess Championship (+0, =2, -2),
  • In 1983, at eight board in the 8th European Team Chess Championship (+0, =2, -2).

Also Karl Janetschek 6 times played for Austria in the Clare Benedict Cups (1960, 1968, 1972, 1974, 1977, 1979)[4] and 2 times in the Mitropa Cups (1977, 1979).[5] In 1977, he won Mitropa Cup in team competition with Austrian team.
