Kaibutsu / Yasashii Suisei

"Kaibutsu"/"Yasashii Suisei" (Japanese: 怪物/優しい彗星, English title: "Monster"/"Comet"[1][2]) is the upcoming first physical single by Japanese duo Yoasobi, set to be released on March 3, 2021. The single include the previous digital singles "Kaibutsu" and "Yasashii Suisei". The both songs has been appointed as the opening and ending theme song for the season 2 of the anime television series Beastars, respectively.[3]

Background

"Kaibutsu" and "Yasashii Suisei" was released as digital single on January 6 and January 20, 2021, before combined to be a physical single. The both songs has been appointed for the season 2 of the anime television series Beastars. "Kaibutsu" was based on the original novel Jibun no Mune ni Jibun no Mimi o Oshi Atete (自分の胸に自分の耳を押し当てて, Press your ears against your chest) written by Paru Itagaki, who write Beastars, and was featured as the opening theme song for the anime.[4] While "Yasashii Suisei" was based on Shishiza Ryūseigun no Mama ni (獅子座流星群のままに, As it is Leo meteor shower) written by the same author, and was featured as the ending theme song for the anime.[5]

Release

The physical single will be released in 2 version: limited edition and fanclub limited edition for "Club Yoasobi" members. The both version in addition to the original songs, the TV size versions, and non-credit opening and ending video from Beastars was also included. The fanclub limited edition include the acoustic session of "Tabun" and "Ano Yume o Nazotte".[6]

Music video

The music video "Kaibutsu" was premiered on January 13, 2020, directed by Rina Mitsuzumi, with 2D animation by Kaori Onishi and motion graphics by Jun Matsuda and Cafuu.[7] It depicts the conflict and determination of the main character of Beastars, Legoshi, and wears a sense of speed and darkness.[8]
