Kade Diawara
Hadja Kadé Diawara with her first name also written as 'Kadè', 'Khady' or 'Kadet' (Sangbarala, ca. 1940[1] – Conakry, 24 April 2020[2]) was a female Guinean singer.
In her home country she was known as "archangel of the mandingo music". She was awarded the Médaille d'honneur du travail (1967), Médaille du Mérite Culturel (2010) and became officier in the Ordre National du Mérite (2011).[3]
Diawara started singing when she was young and performed together with her brother.[4] According to herself she joined the Ensemble Instrumental National de Guinée as the choir singer-soloist. She performed with the ensemble worldwide. From 2000 she continued alone as soloist.[5]
Some of her songs are in The Syliphone Archive, a collection of Guinean songs recorded between 1960 and 1990. The collection was published online through the British Library in 2019.[6]
