Description
The tower is situated on Küçük Çamlıca Hill (literally: Little Çamlıca Hill). The construction began on 1 March 2016,[2] and is being carried out by Sarıoğlu Construction Co.[3] It is being built in concrete on a 21 m (69 ft) deep foundation. A steel mast of 145 m (476 ft) height for radio and television transmission will be mounted atop the 220.50 m (723.4 ft) high concrete tower. The total height of the tower will be then 365.50 m (1,199.1 ft) with its top standing 583.5 m (1,914 ft) above main sea level. It will be the highest structure in Istanbul. Its cross section has elliptical form with the main axes of 13 and 16 m (43 and 52 ft), which become smaller upwards. Each tower floor will be 4.50 m (14.8 ft) high.[3] Two observation decks will be situated on the 33rd and 34th floors at 148 and 153 m (486 and 502 ft) height.[4] The 39th and 40th floors at 153 and 175 m (502 and 574 ft) height will host a restaurant and a cafeteria.[2] Libraries and exhibition halls will be situated in the basement floors.[5] A panoramic elevator and a service elevator will serve the tower. It is hoped that the tower will attract about 4.5 million visitors yearly.[7]
Küçük Çamlıca Tower will be capable of hosting 125 broadcasting transmitters (DVB-T2 and DAB compatible).[4][5] When completed, it will replace most of the steel communications masts at the two neighboring Çamlıca hills, which cause visual pollution[3] and are considered to be harmful to health. The construction cost was 170 million liras (approx. US$48.5 million, 2017).[1][2][6]
As of 2021, construction has been finished and test broadcasts have begun.
